On Thursday April 5th 2012, the Queen visited York to distribute the Royal Maundy money at York Minster.
Accompanied by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and their grandaughter, Princess Beatrice of York, the Queen arrived at Micklegate Bar to be greeted by the Lord Mayor of York.
Thousands of onlookers saw the Royal party proceed by car through Micklegate en route to the Minster.
The Civic Party followed the Royal car and they in turn were followed by the York Waits and members of a Civil War re-enactment Society who had based themselves at Holy Trinity for the day.
Micklegate was closed for the day and there was quite a party atmosphere! The Civil War re-enactors gave demonstrations and talks during the day and there was a lot of interest in their camp. Even the churchwarden tried to get in on the action....
